<e28> Motronics question (fuel pump relay control)

My 88 535i recently had a few episodes of stalling out and failing to
restart.  As a last ditch attempt to start the car, I gave a few taps to
the Motronic unit in the glove box, and the car started.  It later stalled
again, but restarted after the Motronic was tapped.  Has anyone had this
problem?  What must I ultimately do to keep this from recurring??
