AL; After hundreds of BMWs through my hands in 25 years,I can make it
real simple.Owners who service their cars regularly do spend hundreds of
dollars.Those who don't spend thousands.Your choice.

Sounds like a typical garage mechanic to me! :-)
I have always serviced my own cars using very good quality components an=
d lubes and
have never had a problem. Routine servicing is a 'piece-of-cake' for some=
one with a
reasonable amount of mechanical know-how and some tools. I would personal=
ly rather do
it myself, I know exactly what is done to the car, know what went into it=
and don't
pay =A360+ per hour to have what could be a 19 yr old trainee mechanic 's=
ervice' my
pride and joy!
Havind said all that i am a qualified mechanical engineer so weilding spa=
nners is no
mystery to me. At the end of the day you make your own decision. If you a=
re confident
you can do it and have the tools, have a go. If not pay someone who can!
