 That car would be a '92 model year.  My '89 325is has a built date of 9-88. 
 
The Cabriolet continued on for the '92 and '93 model years in E30 form 
unlike it's tin-lidded counterpart which ended with the '91 model year.

 The first E36 sedan was a '92,  but the first E36 Convertible was a '94.
