manual transmission

I have a 94 318is that has had it share of transmission problems over the 
years.  It was finally replaced under warrenty in 97.  I live in Montreal and 
it is very cold here.  Lately I have experenced difficulties  shifting when 
it,s very cold. I know from my experience with the old transmission that BMW 
put Automatic transmission fluid in the old manual gear box. Would it be 
recomended to put Redline MTF in or Redline ATF in the gear box.  I am not 
sure what the new transmission takes the old one had ATF sticker on it, the 
new one has (DOT-R) where the serial number was on the old one and no 
indication on what type of transmission fliud.  I have herd of digester a 
while back having problems with sythetic Redline MTF.  And that the sythetic 
ATF would remedy the situation.  Was this just a vivid dream I had? Could 
anyone clairyfy this
