OBC & Oil Change Intervals

(Sorry if this is a reposting, but I never saw it appear on the
Digest, although I did get one direct email reply from someone. Something
must have happened with my email that day.)

On one hand I read the submissions from BMW owners who religiously
change their oil and filter every (insert your mileage here) miles: 3,000
- - 3,500 - etc.

On the other hand there is the OBC.

When I got my first BMW in 1996, a 1992 525i with 50k miles (and
which had just had a 50k service), I drove it cross country at high speed
and months later, with the odometer reading 8k miles and with a green
square or two still showing on the OBC, I got nervous and had the oil
changed. I have always been one of those "change it every 3.5k and the
engine will last forever" kind of guys.

Well, I just got another used BMW, a 96 328i with 22k on the
odometer. When I told the BMW dealership how I ignored the OBC on my 525i
and changed the oil every 3.5k, they politely rolled their eyes as if
dealing with a child and told me to follow the OBC and ignore the mileage.

Really? Do _all_ you folks with OBCs really only change the oil
when the change oil light comes on?

Watch it buddy...don't think I can't see you rolling your eyes!

	Thanks,
	Bob G.
