You asked if changing the speakers would improve the sound quality of your car stereo.
I would advice against it. Why?

I had the same problem with the way my stereo sounded in my 97 M3. It sounded muddy, the sound was not clear, 
even with the tremble at maximum. "Germans must have really bad hearing" I thought, but then I listened to an OEM  
Bose system in an A4 and I was surprised by the quality, so it is not the Germans, it is those cheap idiots at BMW.

So I replaced the speakers, and to my big surprise, the new ones sounded worse! The factory speakers may look 
cheap (mine were made by Nokia) but they actually perform pretty well. What makes them look cheap is the paper
cone inside the woofer, but don't let their looks deceive you, they are OK. I put the old speakers back and decided to replace the head unit.

I bought the Blaupunkt Torronto, and as many others like me have found out, it sounds 100% better than the Alpine OEM.
I am very happy about the sound quality and I don't think that changing speakers, wires or amps would really offer any
improvement.

Your problem lies, most likely, in the head unit, and you probably can't replace it with an aftermarket system that looks OEM.
