<E-36> Brake questions.

I just replaced my front stock brake rotors & pads with ATE power disk and 
PBR metal master pads.  The rear brake remain the same (stock).  The 
question is that why I don't notice the difference after changed the brake 
rotors & pads? is it because I didn't change the rear brake?  I had a chance 
to drive a brand new 328CI as loaner car from BMW service department, I 
notice that I didn't really have to step the brake pedal very hard & deep to 
make the car stop, but for my '96 328is, I have to step on the brake pedal 
all the way down to make it stop.  Any suggestion?
