2002 Vent/Defrost/Heater

Hi,
I have a '75 2002...none of the controls on either side of the steering wheel for the heater, vent, or defroster work. Any indication why? When I slide them around, nothing happens. Please offer advice as to what it could be. Do these things run off of the blower motor behind the AC, or separately? The blower motor works when I turn it on from the AC control, just to note. Thanks a lot!
