Non-functional gauges on an '89 525i

Hi Folks,

I'm looking at an '89 525i that has a few minor problems at first glance.
The speedo and tach works but remainder of the gauges on the console are not
working. What is the likely culprit here? I'm trying to assess what it would
take to rectify this and is it something I could repair myself. Your input
will be greatly appreciated.
