Maybe you could build a cheap "carport" in front of your garage?

I'm putting one on the side of our 2-car garage because it already had 3
cars *in* it. Plywood roof, wooden beams on the side. Ours doubles as a
covered outside living area, because it is on the edge of a courtyard, and
looks down over the back garden. I won't protect from all the elements, but
it will stop stuff which comes down.

Just something you "may"be able to look into.
