wheels for winter

hey all,

first posting to this mailing list so here goes...

am a proud owner of '96 328i with sports/ast packages and need to get ready
for winter.  i'd like to buy an additional set of (steel) wheels to mount
snow tires to so i don't ruin the alloys i'm currently running.

from the webpages/faqs/postings i've seen so far, i should try to get 16"
steel rims with taller/narrower tires than what i'm running now (225/50/16)
- -- (if this is incorrect, please tell me...)

anyone know where i can get a set of wheels that will fit my model? also,
what tires work best?  location is upstate ny (for those who know what
winters are like)
