WTB for a friend

Posting a question for a net-impaired friend. He has about $3500 +/- to 
spend, and is convinced that BMW is the way to go. What might he expect to 
find in that price range in the Washington, DC area? Only '02s and 320's, or 
does anyone else know of any other reasonably priced models? Please respond
