Non-sealed batteries emit hydrogen and oxygen when charging (why the water
goes down). In an open engine, no problem; in a trunk/boot, not good.
There is a 1/4" oval nozzle next to the battery vent caps on correct models.
A hose connects to it and drops through the rubber flap on the side of the
fender below the bumper to exit outside the car. You can put a new hose on
a correct battery to get the venting.
