<E30>back-up light switch

aforementioned switch needs to be replaced. my question is: is this switch 
located above the tranny fluid level, so i dont have to drain the 
transmission fluid? from what i understand, the switch is located pretty high 
up on the tranny, but i wanted to double check before i start the job. thanks 
for any help.
