Has anyone changed valve stem seals on a '86 ETA engine? I am going to
look at a 325 with 120k miles, the owner replaced the timing belt at
100K and says that the valve stem seals are leaking. What is involved
in changing stem seals? I would not think twice about this on a GM
product as that is what I am used to working on. I am assuming I can
either pressurize the cylinders with air or bring the piston up to tdc
to keep the valves from falling and then pull the keepers and springs
then change the seals.
Also, how much difference is there between the standard seats on a 325
and the sport seats on a "s" model? I am looking at 2 1986 325's one
standard and one "s" all other things being the same what is the "s"
package worth - asking prices are $3000 for the standard car and $4000
for the "s" - both have been for sale for a while so I think they should
be somewhat flexible. I am also planning on looking at a 1987 325is
this weekend, I know this is a superior car but at $4900 somewhat out of
my price range - I really need to keep the cost under $3500 so the
standard 325 is looking the best right now.
Thanks again
Scott
