<E30> Drive axle removal

Hey folks,

Whats the best way to remove the drive axles from the
hub housing?  I've tried using a large wooden dowel and
a hammer, but they just won't break loose.  Do I simply
need a larger hammer?  I've considered a 3-jaw puller,
but am concerned it may bend/flex the wheel hub.

Any suggestions?
