Looking for suggestions... 750 vs. 540 (???)

Hi All!
I am a very happy owner or an e30 325i convertible. But recently I've
started to think about getting another car. I will keep my trusty old
convertible, but would like to own a more luxurious vehicle. I've zeroed in
on two models, either the 750i(l) or the 540i(s). I'll use the car mostly on
highways. Which of these two models has more power? which is faster? what
are my performance upgrades options? How much does each weigh? What are the
cornering characteristics? Safety issues? and of course the old
price/performance issue...
