Certainly!
Remove the instrument cluster, pull the 'board' out of the cluster and
replace the batteries. Those would either be NiCad's (about AA size) or
Lithiums (about 1/2 AA legth). Both types are available for around $10 for
both. The original (or current replacements for the car of you age)
batteries are soldered to the board. You can re-solder new batteries. Or,
optionally, solder a battery holder to the board and place new batteries
into the holder where they will be easier to swap in the future. I could not
find a holder for my board's Lithiums, so I just soldered them in place.
Soldering to the battery contacts directly can be a bit tricky, but is
doable. And way cheaper then $150 for a new board!
