E28 M5 brakes to E12 ?

Some questions:

First, what's the difference between regular E28 brakes and the M5
brakes if there is any? Rotor diameter? Different calipers? Also, do E28
M5 brakes (if they are bigger/better) fit on a regular 535i?

Now, on to the next question? Would those same E28 M5 brakes (rotors,
calipers, pads) fit onto an E12? What would be the differences between
E12's and E28's? Also, what would the problems of such a retrofit be?

Any information would be GREATLY appreciated!
