Re: <E28> Wheel & tire question

Hi Mike,

A 225 tire on a 7.5" wheel will fit on a 535is with stock suspension without
causing problems. I'd recommend using 8" rims with 225/50/16 tires, because it looks much better.
But a 7" rim will fit fine - it just won't look as good. With an 8 inch mag you may have to roll
the rear fender, though on my E28 with BBS 16x8 mags with 18mm offset, it fitted fine without any
need for modification.

You'll find a lot of info on E28 wheels/tire combinations and suspension setups for E28, E36, etc
on Richard Nott's BMW Database:
http://www.gis.nsw.gov.au/staff/rnott/bmw/bmw.html
go to "Technical" and look for the "Wheels and Tires" or "Steering/Suspension" sections.

Cheers,
Richard

Subject: <E28> Wheel & tire question

Hi all,
Sometime in the near future I have to buy tires and when I do I'd
also like to get new wheels. I currently have
205/60X15(wheel width unknown) and am considering 225/50X16(7.5"width),
overall diameter changes very little, < .2", but I'm concerned about using a
7.5" wide wheel. Is a 7.5" wheel the correct size for a 225mm tire? Will a
225mm tire on a 7.5" wheel fit on a 535is with stock suspension without
causing problems?
TIA, Mike
