K & N Filters. Been there-done that. NOT for cars, IMO. Why??- Easy. They are
meant for "quick clean" in very dusty use conditions. Dirt bikes, quad-
runners, Pilots, etc., where after a few hours of dusty riding you aren't
going to replace a $15 paper filter. No way, you wash out & re-oil the K&N (or
equivalent).
Can it remove the microfine dirt that a paper filter can? No way! I proved it
myself in a Mercedes-Benz application. Oiled a new K&N , used in a 1991
560SEL. Drove 5k miles, removed filter, check out fuel injection air inlet
housing/bowel. YUGH!. You could wipe your finger and get pink dirty grimy film
off it!!!! Sorry folks, dirt and cylinder walls don't MIX! :-(, IMO.
Stick with a stock air filter, and change it out every 10-15K miles.
