that was the theory. there are glitches in the filters in majordomo version
1.94.3; i need to upgrade the server to 1.94.4 and see if that works. if
filters in 1.94.4 are stable, then we can start looking at the
administrative adjustments that will need to follow to control the flamage.

please. i've never figured out what it is about this list; the bmw list is
about 2400 members right now; the alfa list about 1400 members. the alfa
list never reachs the level of immaturity and stupidity that this list all
too often approaches. i don't administer the alfa list any differently.

after due consideration, here is the plan of action:

1) i'll upgrade the server to 1.94.4; this will fix some filter bugs that have
    been at issue for a while, and prevented proper control in "problem"
    cases.

2) i'll consider offers to assist with administration, and look at what
this will
    take. the problem is separation of function; the part of this process that
    list members never see is all the $#$@#!#*&$ bouncing email
    handling. i spend far more time reading and interpreting email error
    messages than i do reading digest content.

3) i'm going to reexamine digest advertising; i ran some numbers for
    a potential alfa-digest advertiser the other day, and concluded that
    my 2+ year old rates for the various lists are now way too low -- but
    on the other hand, people aren't falling all over each other to advertise
    right now, either.
