Erratic Central Locking

Hi all,
           Recently my central locking has taken on a mind of it's own,
sometimes it works fine and others it resfuses to work at all. When working
it all seems normal, but when inoperative, there is no clicking from the
actuators. Has anyone any suggestions or tips before I spend any time on
this problem?
