Rob,    This is very common.  As you say, the fuel gets low and losses pressure as the
pick up losses fuel.  One thing to check that can make this worse is the transfer
pump.  There are two pumps for fuel, the x-fer, and main pump.  the x-fer is in the
fuel tank and is notorious for going out.  check that ASAP.  The main pump will still
work, but pressure is down a bit and the pick up in the fuel tank insn't as good.
