This is an old, old thread, but here goes: Rain-X was originally developed
for aircraft, as wipers don't work too well at 200+ mph. I don't know the
chemical make-up, but it's kinda like waxing your windshield, only instead
of white, chalky residue, you get haze if you don't do it right. Follow
the directions EXACTLY and you'll have great results. Skip a step or try
your own method and you'll be sorry. I started using it in '83 when I
bought my first Porsche, and have used it on everything I've owned since
then. Above 60 mph it is great and wipers are unnecessary. I believe
wipers gradually scrape the stuff off so using them will increase the
frequency of reapplications. I've impressed many friends by driving along
in a pouring rain with no wipers. The water really beads up and flys off
the windshield(or windscreen for you Brits). I use it on ALL glass on the
car, including the outside mirrors. Just FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!
