Re: E28 wheels (M5 -> 535) followed by a question (?)

Concerning E28 M5 vs 535i fenders you wrote:

"My point? My point is that if you put M5 size tires on a 535/528, you're
going to have to do something to make it work. Yes, yes, I know I'm a
great help. But I still don't get this fender rolling thing (maybe
someone can explain it to me OFF-LINE)."

E28 M5's came from the factory with the fender lips rolled. The inside of
the fender has a piece of metal that bends in toward the tire horizontally,
like this: TIRE _| <-fender. If you put a hose inside the fender and
squirt water, the water will flow along this lip and pour out the bottom
edge. "Rolling" the fender means bending that horizontal piece of metal
upwards and out of the way, so that a wider tire will have more room to
move about.

Next time you see an E28 M5, casually stroll up to it and slip your fingers
under the rear fender and slide your hand back and forth. You will feel
that the lip has been bent upwards. Then go feel the rear fender of your
car and you will feel a definate difference. I had the rear fenders on my
535is rolled by a body shop because I was too chicken to do it myself.
They did a really nice job and even painted the inside of the fenders so
that no rust would form where the paint was scratched (you cannot see these
since they are inside the fender). Makes clearance a non issue for the BBS
wheels that I am running that previously rubbed during hard cornering.
