<ALL> lemon vehicles
everyone,
it was queried:
<<This does raise an interesting question, though...where do those lemon law
returns go?>>
well, i don't have first hand experience with a lemon bmw (another brand)
but i guarantee they turn them back out for resale. everyone else does.
basically, the factory will "rework" these cars (including the cars that
duane talked about) to bring them up to current standards, including all
recalls, some updates, etc. they are then sold at auction (usually) and end
up on the lot. if you are contemplating purchasing a used car from ANY
dealer or person i would highly recommend running the VIN at a place like
carfax (www.carfax.com). it cost ~$12 and it will show you any title change
including manufacturer buy backs (lemons). it will also show the mileage at
which title change occurred so if you find that perfect car with super low
miles it wouldn't hurt to be a but cautious. i realize that many dealers
are very trustworthy but when buying a used car an ounce of prevention......
anyone remember about 2 years ago when a women bought a demo (i believe E36)
and she complained about all these problems and finally wanted to sell it
and condemn bmw in the process? only the old timers may remember this one.
anyway, she posted several times to the list about all of her problems
blaming bmw for poor quality and this and that. of course almost everyone
said "be careful with demos!" IMHO, demo or executive vehicle means instant
VIN check and i would want all the service records. getting burned once is
all it takes.
it should be noted though that not all lemons are bad vehicles. depending
on state, the lemon laws are very different. some states have very strict
laws (CA) where the customer can almost get away with buyers remorse. other
states are not so easy. i am sure you can look up the law for your state
easily. if nothing else the DMV, Sec of State, or whatever it is called,
can tell you.
i suppose there will be some opposition to this post. i am speaking from
experience though, granted my lemon car was not a bmw. if you have a
response which may constitute a flame please respond in private.
