[all] ice in battery acid

It's been pretty cold in Chicago for the last few weeks and I had some 
problems starting my 325iX.  Anything below 20 degrees, no cranking.  
Anything above 20 no problem. Today when the temp was tolerable I took 
the battery out  to recharge it. When I took the cap off I noticed ice 
floating inside.  Does this mean the battery acid is on its last leg?  
The battery is only 2 years old.  Can I add anything to the acid to  
prevent freezing?
