<E30>How do I refinish metal band around windshield

If you look closely at the "metal" trim piece it is actually laminated with
a plastic covering which makes it impossible to polish, clean, or return to
acceptability in any way.  Instead, I just took black 1/2" 3M electrical
tape and ran it around the windshield and rear window moldings to cover up
the trim piece.  The car looks cleaner with all black moldings anyway, and
short of replacing the metal trim, I think that's the best way to clean
things up.  Good luck.
