Potential Wheel Bearing Problem

Before I mounted my new wheels and tires on my 1994 325ic, I started hearing
a loud noise coming from the rear wheels of the car. It was a reverberation
that would actually quiet down as my speed increased. I thought the crappy
tires were the cause.

However, mounting my 17" wheels and tires did not solve the problem. Now I
realize that a convertible is louder than a coupe or sedan, but I think that
I may have a wheel bearing that requires replacing. I am not a mechanic so
I am unsure of this diagnosis. The sound is loud at low speeds ( < 30mph)
and you can just about synch it with wheel rotating. It is starting to
become bothersome.

Has anyone else had a problem like this one? What else could it be besides
the wheel bearing? Your help is appreciated.
