For interested parties:
Stephen Jay Gould has written an interesting essay on calenderics,
focusing specifically on the Y2K issue. It's entitled "Dousing
Diminutive Dennis' Debate (or DDDD=2000)," and can be found in
_Dinosaur in a Haystack_.
Contrary to previously posted information, the 20th Century was widely
held to have begun on January 1, 1901, NOT 1900. So, should we "party
like it's 1999," the 20th Century will only have had 99 years.
Ah, the problems we assume due to blind faith in tradition...
