Change to Synthetic Oil?

I dug into the archives, but did not arrive at a sound conclusion (I am
joining the game late...), so here goes my part at redundancy.  Is it wrong to
switch from "organic" to synthetic oil after, say, 140k miles?  Did the Digest
finally come to some sort of consensus?  Once again, I appreciate all your
responses!  Computers can actually make bmw's a bit easier to care for.  Now,
if I could only get together a bmw club to troubleshoot my computer...Thanks!
