We own a 90/91 325i SE. I geuss it stands for "Special Equipment". It is a 4
door 5 speed. It just has more extras than a 325i. Ours was a limited
edition of the last 50 sold here in New Zealand. It has extra stuff like air
con, side skirts, premium sound etc all as standard. When it was new here it
cost around $100,000 ($50,000 US).

Did you also know that there is a 518i? The 520i is a smaller version of the
2.5. Many people say the 2.0 is smoother than the 2.5.

The M325i has M-technic suspension, bodykit and bbs style "crosspoke"
wheels. Later models with manual trans also got a close ratio gearbox.
Almost an M3 with a M20/b25 engine, and no flared wheel arches.

I think the 2.0 is common on asian markets for tax reasons.
