I have a 1994 318i. My car has the premium sound option. I think the
stereo sounds DECENT. It is sure better than the factory ones in most
other cars I've had experience in. It is definately better than the one in
my friend's MB C220 (he has a CD-changer btw). He sat in my car and liked
the stereo so much -- because his car (althought it does have sperates and
all) has really lousy treble (sounds muffled and dull).
One thing I must say is that the factory RADIO and TAPE are really bad. It
sounds so terrible and dull (esp the radio). Get a CD changer in there,
and all of a sudden everything sounds MUCH better.
I think the midrange and treble on my system is good enough for me. But
recently I have added a subwoofer.. and I must say it is MUCH improved.
Before I had to turn up the bass on the deck.. which affected the other
frequencies. But now I have the bass in the neutral position, and have the
sub in the trunk.. and now I get decent bass.. and the other frequencies
are still rich. Yes, I am still using that stock deck!
