318 1984 AC compressor problem

I turned on my AC today and got nothing but warm air. The problem was
traced to the black wire from the compressor to the high pressure
switch. A black block of hard rubber seperated from the compressor.
The wire from the high pressure switch goes into one side of this
block. Another wire from just behind the compressor pulley broke off
from the other side of the block. A metal tab in the center of one
face of the block has continuity with the wires mentioned above in
only one polarity direction. I guess the fly-back diode is in this
block and is connected to the metal tab. Can I repair this broken
connection without removing or replacing the compressor??

Thanks in advance.
