E30 Buying advice

Thanks to sharp eyed digesters I haved avoided wasting my and my mechanics
time. The car I was looking at is a 318is, not a 325. I can only assume
that when the car was rear ended, they replaced the trunk lid with one from
a 325is. I have no experiece with these, but would much prefer the 6
cylinder. Interestingly enough, the car did not seem to lack in power, but
I am not interested in dealing with profile gasket problems that I have
heard so much about of late. Thanks to all that replied, publicly and
privately.

I guess I can chalk this up to experience.
