re: Inspection (E36)

Manuel Paredes asks about doing an Inspection I himself.

I try to do as much of the work of the scheduled service myself. Most of it
is just checking stuff. There are only a few things where you need to take
things apart. Do what you can, and ask the dealership to do the rest. When
you call the dealership, tell them what you need done.

Get a service manual (Haynes and Chilton are out, Bentley is due in
Februrary) and maybe even take a course at your local high school if you
need it. From what I hear on the digest, most dealerships don't even do the
checking, only replacing filters and oil, etc.

Actaully, now I do most of the checks during the 5000km oil change. Much
more frequent, yet it doesn't cost any more money.
