When does the "s" stand for "sport"?

True.  Also, I read somewhere that, in the case of the latest E36 323i,
they specifically chose "23" to put it head-to-head with the MB 230 cars
(C230 and E230).  I wonder ... now that MB doesn't have a 230 anymore
(replaced by the V6 2.4l).
