e-21 motor compatibility and such

i have a 79 320i with a locked up motor......what other motors would drop
in without TOO much fabrication necessary.

This is my first BMW, and i know that a lot of the models interchange, but
i don't know to what extent.

Also, i am a college student, so there is NO change of going the E36 M3
drivetrain route, as cool as it would be!
