Nikasil Issue

John,

You know you're in trouble when you go to a dealer service manager and he
says he is not aware of the block problem on the Nikasil engines.

Run away. These guys are lying SOB's.

As far as the oil check goes..... BS.... think about it bucko. You can do
your own "oil check" for 20 cents by topping up the oil and then checking
again at 750 miles. You also want to observe the state of the oil as the
blow by (from the scored cyl. walls) will now be in solution with the oil.

As I recall, the V8 should have a very smooth idle and the way to get a
visual check is to open the door and look at any movement of the door's
upper corner. Any shake greater than 1/4 inch (?) indicates the problem at
idle.

Your best bet is to see if any of the car's records indicate a change to
the block or that another dealer did the half assed modifications to the
thermostat and Eprom, then demand a new block before the warranty is up.
