<E30> iX oil change

thanks to all who responded to my previous post regarding the PITA filter on
my '89iX. one person so kindly offered to end my suffering by taking it off
my hands cheap. ; ) others offered their ideas and methods of removing the
filter. these included using an end-of-the-filter filter wrench whilst
reaching between the 2 exhaust manifolds to loosend the filter then allowing
the oil to drain into a few paper towels. this is best done after the
engine has cooled. on this note, i noticed that the exhaust piping sure has
a much higher heat transfer rate than those manifolds. they stayed VERY hot
(only 2nd degree burns) for quite a while but the piping was cool in a short
amount of time. but i digress....another idea was to loosen the filter
slightly then slip a plastic bag over it, continue to loosen it and let the
oil drain into that. both good ideas - thanks. to elaborate on what i
did....i took a piece of card board, approximately 9"x11", and sort of
finaggled it between the filter and the engine block. i then bent it so
that it created a valley for the oil to flow down and simply pointed it back
towards the open area behind the filter (where the exhaust piping goes down)
and allowed it to drain into the catch pan. only dropped about 3 drips.

well, other fluid changes will follow shortly. drop a note if you want even
more detail than this.
