Well guys,
You've enhanced my faith in this Digest!...I received all sorts of help to my
cry for help about my brake light dilemma....As Jerry Chyo said..."sometimes
you just have to post twice to receive help"...I must learn to be patient.
And yes Jerry, I was kidding about E28's being "lowly"..they are cool
indeed!...and so are E36 M3's, Z3's, etc.
I'm posting "before" I find the "fix" to my brake warning light being on
intermittenly, because I wanted to thank everyone who offered assistance.
At this point, I'm beginning to believe the "bomb" is fine, but one or both of
the switches may be bad (the brake accumulator pressure switch; the hydraulic
pressure switch). Being that the hyd. pressure switch is atop the
regulator(where most of the grime starts and works its way down onto the bomb,
etc....my bet is it is the culprit...for $20 it's sure worth a try. BTW, does
anybody know what the "3rd" connector is for on the wiring loom that connects
to this switch?...there is a blank connector on my car. Is this common on
E28's or just M5's?
The ETM says that both of these switches are on the same circuit as the brake
fluid level switch on the brake fluid reservoir...so this does make it
somewhat of a guessing game doesn't it? I believe the brake system is fine,
especially since I had it serviced a month ago.
I drove all the way to work today and most of the way home before the damn
brake telltale warning light came on again<g>! When I inspected everything
tonight (still looked clean from the wipe down last night), I pumped up the PS
reservoir like I'm suppose to to discharge the brake accumulator ("bomb"),
cleaned the switches up, then started the car...no light...but wait...there it
goes again...didn't even touch the brake pedal!....It's gotta be a bad switch.
If it's the bomb I'll be surprized...since I remember how it felt the last
time it went bad, and the brakes feel normal...if it wasn't for the light I
wouldn't even be talking about this<g>.
I will let everyone know how it goes as I troubleshoot this further...thanks
to Jim Moran, Chris Peterson, Rod Moore, Matthew Yip, and Jerry Chyo for the
assistance!(sorry if I missed anyone).
Regards and Happy ///Motoring,
John Weese
