Best way to remove light scratches from paint?

Hi Folks!
Anyone out there have any luck or expertise in removing light scratches 
from their paint?  I came in contact with some bushes on the side of my 
car and it has left some light scratches the length of the car.  Is 
polishing compound and a buffer recommended?  TIA!
