Please! Oiling the paint?

PLEEEEEEEEEASE! Come on guys, don't buy that marketing crap. Ever hear
the expression "as fun as watching paint dry"? Often used in reference to
driving Japanese cars... but I digress. Paint dries. That means it is
not liquid or semi-liquid. Dry. Hard. Non-soluable. There are no
"oils" in modern paint. Besides, even if they were present (which they
aren't), recent cars have clear-coat finishes. This means that there are
several layers of a clear coating (hence the name) on top of the paint, to
protect it. Like putting polyurethane on wood furniture. Oil will not
penetrate the clear coat.
This is one of my pet peeves. It's OK -- I have many, like parking next
to Accords... wax is wax is wax. Buy a brand that is not too harsh and
is easy to apply and remove and lasts relatively long. Experiment. But
don't go for this "nourishing" the paint B.S.
And for leather care -- I used to use Hide Food on my Jaguar, but the stuff
goes rancid after a while. I think it is actually rendered beef fat,
which is probably good for the leather, but will tend to have a unique
aroma.
