Tire sizing for M3

I just bought a set of 17" X 7.5" (front) & 17" X 8.5" (rear) M3 wheels and
now I need tires.  However, from what I can tell, there are different sizes
I can get.

WHAT I KNOW
1995 M3 - 235/40ZR17 on 7.5" wheels
M3 Lightweight - 235/40ZR17 on 7.5" in front and 8.5" wheels in rear
1997-1998 M3 - 225/45/ZR17 on 7.5" in front and 245/40/ZR17 on 8.5" in rear

If this correct, what is the difference in handling, balance etc.?  I know
the cost differences, but are there performance ones?  I do not intend on
racing my car.

I am leaning towards the M3 Lightweight model with 235/40ZR17s all around so
I can rotate the tires, even though I will have bigger rims in the back.
What is your opinion?
