M3 Exhaust Power Loss?

A few volumes back, someone (the name Michael comes to mind, but I'm not sure)
said that they had installed an M3 exhaust on their 325i and noticed a drop in
power... I thought that that was a good upgrade? If the car had a chip custom
tailored to the exhaust system, would that make a difference?
