On E30's, it's typically the trunk gasket or tail lite gaskets. One
interesting new tool at SEMA was a LeakMaster Smoke Machine, primarily
designed to trace and detect vacuum, intake and exhaust leaks (and could
detect sunroof drain leaks). This machine generates a thick & long lasting
smoke which exits wherever there is a leak....I presume it could be used to
detect sunroof drains leaking into the car or trunk. SD
