Gregg Ott's logic is correct about not getting something for nothing (1st Law 
of Thermodynamics) if you don't consider the additional energy from the extra 
fuel that would be burned. This logic applies to mechanical superchargers - 
they would provide no net gain (an actual loss) in power were it not for the 
additional charge of fuel and air provided.
