Mike: I learned my lesson the hard way on my (my wife's) first BMW, a 1979
320i that came only with a 12k 1yr warranty.  I eschewed the extended warranty
because I thought it too expensive.  When the auto trans went out at 23,000
miles, and again at 46,000 miles, I said "never again".  So when I bought my
633CSi (1983), my wife's 528e (1985) and my 735i (1988), I always paid the
extra $750 - $1500 for the longest BMW extended warranty I could get.  I have
never regretted it.  It has ALWAYS been a bargain in the long run.  I still
have the last three cars (now with 56k miles, 190k miles and 146k miles
respectively) and, as much as I love BMWs (obviously) I wish the extended
warranties were even longer. ...Chas
