<E28> Rear speakers

As far as I know, the stereo in my 88 528 is the oem.  The amp is in the
trunk under the rear deck, etc.   I noticed the other day that the rear
speakers were not working, or if they were, was real faint.  The front
speakers are fine.  I know it's not blown speakers, but I'm wondering if
maybe the amp is going out?  I'm not sure but, I think first thing in
the morning the rear speakers seem to generate some sound but not for
long.

Any ideas?
